[Draize test and alternative methods for the evaluation of irritancy of chemical substances]

ABSTRACT

The eye irritancy test in rabbits (Draize test) is currently the method used to evaluate the hazard or safety o f chemical substances. To reduce the need for animal testing some new procedures as alternative were elaborated. We present a review of method used as well as evaluation o f sensitivity and repeatability o f alternative tests applied in laboratories of European Economic Communities.
